Understanding the Naturopathic Approach

You are unique and so are your symptoms and their cause.

Naturopathy has a long history with its roots dating back to ancient systems of healing that have been utilized for thousands of years in some cultures. At its core, Naturopathy seeks to return the body to balance, believing that when the body has all it needs it will be well. This focus on returning the body to an optimal state of wellness rather than just suppressing the symptoms works to remove the obstacles to health and return the body to its natural state of homeostasis. Drawing from nature itself, Naturopathy uses nutrition, essential oils, herbs, homeopathics, light, color, sound, and bodywork to stimulate the body’s innate healing mechanisms.

Most importantly, Naturopathy sees your dis-ease as messages that your body is giving to alert you that all is not as it should be. Naturopathy looks at all of you – everything that has contributed to this dis-ease; mind, body and spirit.  Naturopathy is unique to many other therapies and systems because it combines several tools of assessment as well as several options of natural therapies. Because you are so unique, Naturopathy provides a very individualized approach. Using non-invasive tools of assessment with several areas of the body, we look for the body’s messages of imbalance and suggestions for support.

Core Principles of Naturopathy at Rooted Well

Find the root of the issue.

Illness doesn’t occur without cause. Symptoms are expressions of the body’s attempt to heal; not the cause of disease. Therefore, finding even a natural remedy that simply addresses symptoms is considered a suppression of the bigger issue. While I work to help ease symptoms by removing offending substances, I am mindful about not using natural remedies to palliate symptoms. Remembering that causes may occur on many levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual; I help you address all of the pieces of your dis-ease.

Treat the whole person.

Every part of you and your life makes up who you are today.  Each of your body systems affects all the others. There is a complex interaction of physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social and others. Together we look at all of these to find a personalized approach that offers you the most benefit. I listen to where you are in every aspect of life. This wholeness is what promotes true healing. I am honored to be on this journey with you!

Your body has its own inherent healing capabilities.

Your body, when properly functioning, has the ability for self – cleansing, and self-repair. In fact, your body is always working to establish, maintain, and restore health. In addition, your body’s healing process is ordered and intelligent. It is my role to facilitate this process to help you identify and remove obstacles and support the creation of a healthy internal and external environment.

Prevention is a lifelong practice.

Health is more than the absence of disease; it is an ongoing process. How you live, love, think and believe literally turns genes on or off.  Which genes are you turning on or off?  The ultimate goal of any health care system should be prevention. Rather than focusing on disease and the germ theory; I teach you how to build your body’s health to withstand whatever you may encounter whether it is the latest cold or dangerous electromagnetic frequencies from our environment. I love to teach you how to eliminate harmful substances from your environment, build health everyday, and even create a natural first aid kit to care for you and your family.

Do no harm.

This is a principle set forth for all doctors, but to the Naturopathic Doctor this means not recommending any substance that adversely affects the body and creates side effects. This also includes avoiding the palliation of symptoms as this ultimately harms the body’s natural healing process.

Doctor as Teacher

The word “doctor” is derived from the Latin, docco, which means “to teach”. As a traditional naturopath, I employ non-invasive assessments and suggest non-invasive and natural remedies with a focus on teaching, supporting and empowering clients to make informed choices that build their health. This is a partnership wherein you are responsible for making decisions that enhance your health and carrying out the actions needed to do so. I am here to empower your journey, but it is your journey!

Creating Bridges

I was once completely unaware of the world of natural medicine and made very different choices for myself and my family that often created more health issues. My search for answers to what allopathic medicine couldn’t answer led me to this whole world of new thought and natural medicine. Now I see the divergence between what I once knew and what I know today. I have noticed there is sometimes fear and judgment that keeps people from experiencing better health. It is here I feel I have become a bridge in many areas that seem opposite in order to help cultivate truth, healing, and wholeness.
